Esther 1:17 meaning and explanation
For the conduct of the queen will become known to all women, causing them to despise their husbands and say, ‘King Xerxes ordered Queen Vashti to be brought before him, but she did not come.’
Esther 1:17, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
Memucan, one of Xerxes' seven closest advisers, is answering the king's question about what to do with Queen Vashti, who refused the command to appear at the feast. His concern is not only the queen's disobedience but its ripple effect: news of her refusal will reach other women, who will cite it as precedent and treat their own husbands with contempt.
