Esther 1:18, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Memucan, one of Xerxes' seven closest advisers, is answering the king's question about what to do with Queen Vashti, who refused the command to appear at the feast. His argument widens the matter from one disobedient wife to a threat against every household: the noble women of Persia and Media will hear what Vashti did and cite her example to their own husbands, and the result will be contempt and wrath.
