Esther 6:1 meaning and explanation

That night sleep escaped the king; so he ordered the Book of Records, the Chronicles, to be brought in and read to him.

Esther 6:1, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

The narrator sets the scene in the Persian palace at Susa, where King Xerxes (Ahasuerus) cannot sleep on the night before Esther's second banquet. To pass the hours he orders the royal chronicles read aloud, and the reading providentially turns to Mordecai's earlier rescue of the king from an assassination plot.
