Exodus 10:2 meaning and explanation

and that you may tell your children and grandchildren how severely I dealt with the Egyptians when I performed miraculous signs among them, so that all of you may know that I am the LORD.”

Exodus 10:2, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

The LORD is speaking to Moses before the eighth plague, explaining why he has hardened Pharaoh and his officials: not to destroy them for their own sake, but so these signs can be recounted. The Hebrew verb translated "tell" carries the sense of rehearsing or declaring, and "severely I dealt" can also mean "how I made a mockery" of Egypt.
