Exodus 20:26 meaning and explanation
And you must not go up to My altar on steps, lest your nakedness be exposed on it.’
Exodus 20:26, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
These instructions come from God to Moses on Mount Sinai, right after the Ten Commandments and the command to build an altar of earth or unshaped stone. Ancient altars were often raised platforms, and steps would have forced a priest to lift his robe as he climbed, exposing himself before the congregation.
