Exodus 24:5 meaning and explanation

Then he sent out some young men of Israel, and they offered burnt offerings and sacrificed young bulls as peace offerings to the LORD.

Exodus 24:5, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

After the people had pledged to obey, Moses built an altar and twelve pillars at the foot of Sinai and sent young men of Israel to offer the sacrifices; the young men act here because the priesthood had not yet been formally established. The burnt offering was given wholly to God, while the peace offering, from the Hebrew shelamim, was a shared meal sacrifice.
