Exodus 33:12 meaning and explanation

Then Moses said to the LORD, “Look, You have been telling me, ‘Lead this people up,’ but You have not let me know whom You will send with me. Yet You have said, ‘I know you by name, and you have found favor in My sight.’

Exodus 33:12, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Moses speaks here to God at the Tent of Meeting, after Israel's golden calf and the LORD's warning that He would send an angel instead of going with them (33:2-3). Moses presses the earlier promise: God told him to lead the people up but has not named who will accompany him.
