Ezekiel 21:14 meaning and explanation

‘So then, son of man, prophesy and strike your hands together. Let the sword strike two times, even three. It is a sword that slays, a sword of great slaughter closing in on every side!

Ezekiel 21:14, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

God has just shown Ezekiel a sharpened sword, the coming Babylonian army, and now commands the prophet to clap his hands as a sign of the blow falling. Striking the hands together accompanies the announcement of judgment, and "two times, even three" is a Hebrew way of saying the blows will keep coming, not stop at one.
