Ezekiel 24:16 meaning and explanation

“Son of man, behold, I am about to take away the desire of your eyes with a fatal blow. But you must not mourn or weep or let your tears flow.

Ezekiel 24:16, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

God speaks these words to Ezekiel, the prophet in exile in Babylon, and announces the death of his wife, called the desire of his eyes. The date is the very day Babylon begins its siege of Jerusalem, so the personal loss becomes a sign of the greater loss coming on the city and its temple.
