Ezekiel 32:15 meaning and explanation

‘When I make the land of Egypt a desolation and empty it of all that filled it, when I strike down all who live there, then they will know that I am the LORD.’

Ezekiel 32:15, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Ezekiel 32 is a lament over Pharaoh and Egypt, spoken by the prophet in Babylon during the exile. Verses 11 to 15 announce that Babylon's sword will strip Egypt of its wealth and people, and verse 15 gives the purpose of that judgment: when the land is emptied, "then they will know that I am the LORD." The phrase echoes throughout Ezekiel, where judgment and restoration alike aim at the knowledge of God.
