Galatians 3:23 meaning and explanation
Before this faith came, we were held in custody under the law, locked up until faith should be revealed.
Galatians 3:23, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
Paul is writing to Gentile believers in Galatia who were being pressured to add law-keeping to their faith. Continuing his argument that the law was never God's final purpose, he uses two images from ordinary life, a prison and a guard, to picture the time before Christ as confinement.
