Genesis 2:18 meaning and explanation

The LORD God also said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make for him a suitable helper.”

Genesis 2:18, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

These are the first words in the Bible that name something "not good." The man in the garden has work, a place and fellowship with God, yet the LORD says solitude is not good for him. The Hebrew word for helper is ezer, a term used elsewhere of God himself as Israel's help, so it carries no hint of inferiority.
