Genesis 49:11 meaning and explanation

He ties his donkey to the vine, his colt to the choicest branch. He washes his garments in wine, his robes in the blood of grapes.

Genesis 49:11, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Jacob is blessing Judah in this deathbed poem, and verse 11 pictures the abundance of the coming ruler's reign. The Hebrew word for wine here is the ordinary term for grape juice, and "the blood of grapes" is a poetic parallel for the same thing.
