Hebrews 10:2 meaning and explanation

If it could, would not the offerings have ceased? For the worshipers would have been cleansed once for all, and would no longer have felt the guilt of their sins.

Hebrews 10:2, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

The writer is arguing that the old covenant sacrifices were repeated because they could not finish the job. If a single offering had truly cleansed worshipers, the line of priests would have stopped, since no further sacrifice would be needed.
