Hebrews 7:9 meaning and explanation
And so to speak, Levi, who collects the tenth, paid the tenth through Abraham.
Hebrews 7:9, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
The writer continues his argument that Melchizedek is greater than Abraham, and so greater than Levi, the ancestor of Israel's priests. Since Levi was still unborn, so to speak, within Abraham when Abraham gave a tenth to Melchizedek, Levi is pictured as paying that tithe himself.
