Isaiah 11:1 meaning and explanation

Then a shoot will spring up from the stump of Jesse, and a Branch from his roots will bear fruit.

Isaiah 11:1, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Isaiah has just described Assyria as a forest cut down (10:33-34), and now he pictures Jesse's line the same way: a felled stump. Jesse was King David's father, so the promise is that David's dynasty, however reduced, is not finished.
