Isaiah 14:25 meaning and explanation

I will break Assyria in My land; I will trample him on My mountain. His yoke will be taken off My people, and his burden removed from their shoulders.”

Isaiah 14:25, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

God speaks here through Isaiah, swearing an oath to Judah, the southern kingdom, which lived under the shadow of Assyria's empire. Assyria was the rod God had used to discipline His people, but the same verse insists Assyria will be broken in God's own land and on His mountain, Zion.
