Isaiah 22:23 meaning and explanation

I will drive him like a peg into a firm place, and he will be a throne of glory for the house of his father.

Isaiah 22:23, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

God speaks through Isaiah about Eliakim son of Hilkiah, whom he has just named to replace Shebna as steward over the palace in Jerusalem (verses 20 to 21). A peg driven into a wall was a familiar image for something fixed and dependable, a place to hang household goods.
