Isaiah 44:5 meaning and explanation

One will say, ‘I belong to the LORD,’ another will call himself by the name of Jacob, and still another will write on his hand, ‘The LORD’s,’ and will take the name of Israel.”

Isaiah 44:5, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

The LORD is speaking through Isaiah to Israel, his chosen servant, promising that his Spirit and blessing will produce descendants who openly identify with him. In verse 5 three people declare their allegiance in different ways: one speaks it, one takes the name Jacob, and one writes the LORD's name on his hand, perhaps like a mark or tattoo branding a servant as belonging to his master.
