Isaiah 57:5 meaning and explanation
who burn with lust among the oaks, under every luxuriant tree, who slaughter your children in the valleys, under the clefts of the rocks?
Isaiah 57:5, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
In Isaiah 57 the LORD speaks through the prophet to Judah, and verses 3 to 5 address a group the prophet calls children of a sorceress, offspring of adulterers. The language is deliberately harsh and metaphorical: idolatry is pictured as adultery against God, and the oaks and luxuriant trees are the high places where Canaanite worship took place.
