James 5:1 meaning and explanation

Come now, you who are rich, weep and wail over the misery to come upon you.

James 5:1, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

James has been addressing quarrels and arrogance among believers, and here he turns sharply to wealthy landowners, probably outside the church, who have exploited their workers. His "Come now" is a prophet's summons to attention, and "weep and wail" echoes Old Testament mourning over coming judgment.
