James 5:6 meaning and explanation

You have condemned and murdered the righteous, who did not resist you.

James 5:6, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

James is finishing his rebuke of wealthy landowners who exploited their workers. In verse 6 he names the climax of their injustice: they condemned and murdered "the righteous," a phrase that can mean a righteous person among them or Jesus himself, and the note that he did not resist echoes the suffering servant who was led like a lamb to slaughter.
