Jeremiah 18:11 meaning and explanation

Now therefore, tell the men of Judah and the residents of Jerusalem that this is what the LORD says: ‘Behold, I am planning a disaster for you and devising a plan against you. Turn now, each of you, from your evil ways, and correct your ways and deeds.’

Jeremiah 18:11, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

The LORD speaks through Jeremiah to the people of Judah and Jerusalem, likely during a time of growing threat from Babylon. The Hebrew word rendered "planning" is the same verb used of the potter shaping clay in verse 4, so God pictures Himself as a craftsman deliberately at work on His people.
