Jeremiah 23:22 meaning and explanation

But if they had stood in My council, they would have proclaimed My words to My people and turned them back from their evil ways and deeds.”

Jeremiah 23:22, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

In Jeremiah 23 the LORD speaks through the prophet Jeremiah in Jerusalem before the Babylonian exile, indicting prophets who ran with messages He never gave. Here God gives the test of true prophecy: one who had truly stood in the LORD's council, the heavenly assembly where His purposes are made known, would speak God's own words and see them turn people from evil.
