The LORD speaks to Jeremiah as Babylon rises and Judah's long refusal to listen has run out. The cup is a prophetic sign: Jeremiah takes it from God's hand and makes the nations drink, starting with Jerusalem and Judah, then Egypt, the Philistines, Moab, Tyre and lands far beyond.
