Jeremiah 44:9 meaning and explanation

Have you forgotten the wickedness of your fathers and of the kings of Judah and their wives, as well as the wickedness that you and your wives committed in the land of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem?

Jeremiah 44:9, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Jeremiah is speaking to the Jews who fled to Egypt after Jerusalem fell, and God through him asks why they have forgotten the sins of earlier generations. The verse names fathers, kings, their wives, and the people themselves, because idolatry had run through every level of Judah's life, including the incense burned to other gods in the streets of Jerusalem.
