Joel 1:8 meaning and explanation
Wail like a virgin dressed in sackcloth, grieving for the husband of her youth.
Joel 1:8, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
Joel speaks to Judah after a locust plague has stripped the land, and in verse 8 he calls the people to lament like a young woman mourning the husband of her youth. In that culture a betrothed man's death meant the future she had expected was gone, so the image pictures grief over lost hope, not merely lost comfort.
