John 10:12 meaning and explanation
The hired hand is not the shepherd, and the sheep are not his own. When he sees the wolf coming, he abandons the sheep and runs away. Then the wolf pounces on them and scatters the flock.
John 10:12, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
Jesus is speaking in Jerusalem during the Feast of Dedication, continuing the shepherd illustration from earlier in the chapter. He has just called himself the good shepherd who lays down his life, and now he contrasts himself with the hired hand, a paid worker tending sheep that are not his own.
