Explanation preview
John, narrating the crucifixion, notes that the soldiers found Jesus already dead and so did not break His legs, unlike the two men crucified beside Him. He reads this detail as the fulfillment of Scripture, most likely the Passover lamb rule in Exodus 12:46 and Numbers 9:12, that not one of its bones may be broken, echoed also in Psalm 34:20.
