Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus, two members of the Jewish ruling class who had kept their sympathy for Jesus quiet, now act openly. Nicodemus brings a large quantity of myrrh and aloes, roughly seventy five pounds, and the two men wrap Jesus' body in linen strips with the spices, following the customary Jewish practice of preparing a body for burial.
