Jonah 1:2 meaning and explanation
“Get up! Go to the great city of Nineveh and preach against it, because its wickedness has come up before Me.”
Jonah 1:2, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
God speaks these words to Jonah, a prophet in Israel, sending him outside his own land to Nineveh, the great city of Assyria, a power his people feared. The command to preach against it means to call out its wickedness, and the reason given is that this evil has come up before God, a picture of a cry reaching his attention, much as Abel's blood cries out in Genesis.
