After marching all night from Gilgal, Joshua caught them by surprise.
Joshua 10:9, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
Joshua has just received a desperate plea from Gibeon, a city that had made peace with Israel and was now under siege by five Amorite kings. The LORD has already promised Joshua victory, and here that promise meets action: Joshua and his whole army march all night from Gilgal, covering roughly twenty miles of hill country, and arrive at dawn to strike the besiegers unexpectedly.
