And Caleb drove out from there the three sons of Anak—the descendants of Sheshai, Ahiman, and Talmai, the children of Anak.

Caleb had received Hebron as his inheritance because he and Joshua alone had trusted God to give Israel the land (Numbers 14). The three sons of Anak were the Anakim, a people remembered as unusually tall and strong, so driving them out was a real test of faith.
