Joshua 2:7 meaning and explanation

So the king’s men set out in pursuit of the spies along the road to the fords of the Jordan, and as soon as they had gone out, the gate was shut.

Joshua 2:7, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

The king of Jericho has sent his men after the two Israelite spies, acting on Rahab's false story that they left at dusk. The fords of the Jordan were the shallow crossing points where travelers could wade the river, so the pursuers head there expecting to overtake the spies before they reach the Israelite camp.
