Joshua 2:6 meaning and explanation

(But Rahab had taken them up to the roof and hidden them among the stalks of flax that she had laid out there.)

Joshua 2:6, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

This parenthetical note explains how Rahab's earlier words to the king's men could be true in a sense: she had already taken the two spies up to the flat roof of her house, which was built into Jericho's wall, and hidden them under stalks of flax she had laid out to dry. Flax was used to make linen, so the detail places the scene in an ordinary working household.
