Joshua 8:5 meaning and explanation
Then I and all the troops with me will advance on the city. When they come out against us as they did the first time, we will flee from them.

Joshua is speaking to the 30,000 picked warriors he has just sent out at night to hide behind Ai. He lays out the plan: he and the main force will march openly on the city, and when the men of Ai come out to fight as they did in the earlier failed attack, the Israelites will retreat.
