Manoah has just seen the angel of the LORD ascend in the flame of the altar and concludes, "We are going to die, for we have seen God." His wife answers with calm reasoning. If God meant to kill them, she says, He would not have accepted their burnt offering and grain offering, nor revealed the coming birth of their son.
