Judges 16:23 meaning and explanation
Now the lords of the Philistines gathered together to offer a great sacrifice to their god Dagon. They rejoiced and said, “Our god has delivered Samson our enemy into our hands.”
Judges 16:23, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
The Philistine rulers gather at their temple to sacrifice to Dagon, their national god, after Samson has been captured, blinded and set to prison labor. In their eyes the victory belongs to Dagon, not to themselves, and the story has already shown why they are wrong: Samson's strength left because the LORD departed from him, not because a rival deity proved stronger.
