Lamentations 2:22 meaning and explanation

You summoned my attackers on every side, as for the day of an appointed feast. In the day of the LORD’s anger no one escaped or survived; my enemy has destroyed those I nurtured and reared.

Lamentations 2:22, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

The speaker is the grieving poet of Jerusalem, voicing the city’s lament after Babylon destroyed it in 586 BC. He addresses God directly, and the image is bitter: God summoned the attackers as though inviting guests to a festival, the same word used for Israel’s appointed feasts in verses 6 and 7.
