Leviticus 20:11 meaning and explanation

If a man lies with his father’s wife, he has uncovered his father’s nakedness. Both must surely be put to death; their blood is upon them.

Leviticus 20:11, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

God speaks these words to Moses for the Israelites camped at Sinai, forming a people set apart before they enter Canaan. This verse forbids a man from sexual relations with his father's wife, meaning a stepmother or another wife of his father rather than his own mother, a case addressed elsewhere.
