Leviticus 25:53 meaning and explanation
He shall be treated like a man hired from year to year, but a foreign owner must not rule over him harshly in your sight.
Leviticus 25:53, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
This verse continues the case of an Israelite who has become so poor that he sells himself to a wealthy foreigner living among the people. The law sets limits on that arrangement: he is to be treated like a hired worker engaged year by year, not as a chattel slave, and the foreign owner must not rule over him harshly.
