Be careful, then, that the light within you is not darkness.

Jesus has just taught that the eye is the lamp of the body: a healthy eye fills a person with light, a bad one leaves him in darkness. In this setting the “eye” means the way a person sees and judges, the inner capacity to receive God’s truth.
