Jesus has just entered Jerusalem to crowds hailing him as King, and he goes straight to the temple courts, the outer Court of the Gentiles where merchants and money changers set up shop so pilgrims could buy sacrifices and pay the temple tax. Driving them out echoes the prophets who condemned worship mixed with commerce.
