When Jesus’ parents had done everything required by the Law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee, to their own town of Nazareth.

Luke has just described the presentation of Jesus in the temple, where Simeon and Anna recognised the child. This verse closes that section: Joseph and Mary had completed everything the Law of Moses required, including the purification of the mother and the redemption of the firstborn son, and so they returned home.
