Luke 9:41 meaning and explanation

“O unbelieving and perverse generation!” Jesus replied. “How long must I remain with you and put up with you? Bring your son here.”

Luke 9:41, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Jesus speaks these words to the crowd and his disciples after the disciples fail to cast a demon out of a boy (verses 38 to 40). His lament echoes Old Testament language about a stubborn people, and it is aimed less at the father than at the wider failure of faith around him.
