As for the man who does this, may the LORD cut off from the tents of Jacob everyone who is awake and aware—even if he brings an offering to the LORD of Hosts.

Malachi is speaking to a people back from exile who have grown careless in worship. In verse 11 he names the offense: men of Judah have married women who worship other gods, and the prophet calls this a profaning of the sanctuary.
