Mark 12:1 meaning and explanation
Then Jesus began to speak to them in parables: “A man planted a vineyard. He put a wall around it, dug a wine vat, and built a watchtower. Then he rented it out to some tenants and went away on a journey.
Mark 12:1, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
Jesus tells this parable in the temple courts, and the chief priests, scribes and elders are the ones listening. The vineyard echoes Isaiah 5, where Israel is the Lord's vineyard, so the man who plants, walls, digs a wine vat and builds a watchtower stands for God, and the tenants for those entrusted with His people.
