In Gethsemane, after the Passover meal, Jesus takes Peter, James and John aside and falls to the ground in prayer, deeply distressed at what awaits him. He addresses God as Abba, an Aramaic word for father used in ordinary family speech, then adds the Greek ho Patēr, father.
