Mark 15:16 meaning and explanation

Then the soldiers led Jesus away into the palace (that is, the Praetorium) and called the whole company together.

Mark 15:16, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

After Pilate hands Jesus over to be crucified, the Roman soldiers take him inside the Praetorium, the governor's residence in Jerusalem, and gather the whole cohort. Mark notes this because what follows is a mock royal court: the soldiers dress Jesus in purple, crown him with thorns and salute him as King of the Jews.
