Mark 7:27 meaning and explanation

“First let the children have their fill,” He said. “For it is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to the dogs.”

Mark 7:27, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Jesus is speaking to a Gentile woman in the region of Tyre who has begged him to free her daughter from an unclean spirit. His image is a household meal: the children are Israel, the bread is his healing and saving work, and the dogs are the household pets under the table, not the scavenging animals of the street.
